Blue Ridge Parkway

My son, a friend, and I went down Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway on three motorcycles. We took 4 days down and back and felt rushed and burned out -- we should have gone slower and taken longer, we are now in recovery mode.

Yep, Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Pkwy.are not something you want to rush. Time needs to be taken to savor the beautiful scenery and the wild life along the way.
I live about 15 west of the Blue Ridge Pkwy. in Staunton, Va. You should do the drive in the fall, when the foliage is in it's brightest colors, many photo ops along the way!
BTW, nice image you captured, I like the low lying clouds.

Wow you were rushed. I've only been half way down the Blue Ridge and it took me a week and that wasn't long enough.

hi Will and Jean, the trip was on my friend's bucket list, and we were worried about a storm front moving in. Every overlook we stopped at was grudged, appreciated most for rear end relief. I felt guilty every time I reached for the tripod. But now I know how beautiful it is there - and what to do about it. Autumn will not escape me!!!

Hi Erich,

Thanks - the ride was a blast. I was getting used to the KLR for an upcoming ride in Utah (my brother will loan me his son's KLR) -- and for my son it was one hell of an experience. He's new to riding, he got a lot of experience fast.

Besides the utter beauty, the thing that surprised me was that almost no one was there. We saw more motor-bikes than cars. Two of the days were Saturday and Sunday, and the roads seemed almost deserted.

Wait till fall gets here, when the foliage is in color it will be a lot different with the traffic!

Surprising that it was so empty; but I would not complain about that. Glad your son got to ride with you. Must be fun. Have fun in Utah. That place has got to be a blast to ride.

Nothing like the Parkway! The Boone access is about 30 minutes from my house....Always a great view....check out the Viaduct....and Grandfather Mountain...

yes,it was empty, so hard to believe. In Autumn,I'm sure the crowds will come.

Hi, Cday, we missed seeing the viaduct - rode thru in thick fog at the time. We could only tell that we were on a bridge like structure... The tunnels were very freaky feeling too!! The country there is must do for anyone within 500 miles.

Yep, you wouldn't believe the crowds in the fall on the Parkway! We call 'em "leaf peepers"...haha....hate you missed the Viaduct. It's an amazing engineering feat..maybe you can come back soon. Grandfather is amazing too; hiking trails, animals, and such. The swinging bridge is not for the fainthearted; that's why I faint every time I get on it...Hahaah LOL!! Not really; depth perception is sometimes an issue, especially there. It's worth it though. Lots of other great places to visit like Doughton Park. Get to Cades Cove in Tennessee too if you haven't been there. One week til my trip..so much to do and so little time...
