Looking of recommendations for a good all purpose wide angle lens. Have a Nikon D7100. Shoot mostly landscapes and some group people shots. All input welcome.

If you already have a 18-something zoom, I think the Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 DX would be a good option.

You should look at the sigma 8-16 mm. It is the widest zoom lens I think there is. It will be wide enough for everything you want to capture. And it is a very good lens.

I am very happy with the Tokina 11-16 on a D300.

What kind of budget do you have ? I use a Sigma 10-20mm F4/5.6 on my D7100... Not the fastest lens, but it works well for what I use it for (scenic shots. I got it after reading Thom Hogans review of it... http://www.bythom.com/sigma10to20.htm

The Nikon 10-24 is awesome for that camera.

It is but it is a full frame lens. While it will work fine it is limited at the wide end for an APS-C camera. The 10-24 is a better choice for the D7100.

(I have both a 10-24 for my D5100 and a recently acquired 16-35 for my D800. Both are great but for their respective sensor sizes.)

I had the Tokina 11-16mm on my D7000. I liked it.

I agree. I have this lens on a Nikon D5200 and like it a lot.

Landscapes and landscapes with people in them are sharp with this lens. Used mine in Maine a couple of weeks ago. For shots of is the people or a group of people be careful. A truly wide angle is a special beast with its own set of rules . My wife's walk around is a Tamron 17-50 2.8 , a very nice lens. Mine is the nifty 50 1.8 or the on mine. As usual, if possible, rent before you buy.

I have the Tokina 11-16 and love it for landscape shots. Just got back from trip to Yosemite and used it for shooting Half Dome and El Capitain, and lots of water falls. It performed great.

The Nikon 10-24 is great. I have a Tamron 10-24 and it is okay at best.. but macro with it is pretty good. for the difference in money get the Nikon

I have had the Nikon 10-24, the Sigma 8-16, and the Tokina 11-16 (bad case of GAS). The only one I still have for my D7100 is the Tokina. Great lens. Built like a tank. Best low light ability. All 3 are good lenses, I just like the Tokina the best.
