My wife and I will be traveling to New Mexico in early October for the hot air balloon festival. We want to spend some time in Santa Fe and we were hoping someone could recommend a reasonably priced hotel or B&B near downtown.

Thanks in advance

Most anything downtown is going to be pricey. If you look on Kayak, you will find lots of reasonably priced lodging. La Quinta, Super 8, EconoLodge, etc.

Santa Fe is not that big and most of the above motels are not that far from downtown and most are clean and comfortable, if not 5 star.

While you are in the area, might I suggest a side trip to Taos. Do the "High Road to Taos" and then do the Enchanted Circle. (Taos to Red River to Eagle Nest, to Angel Fire and back to Taos.) Don't miss the Viet Nam Memorial in Angel Fire. Don't miss the Churches in Taos and Chimayo.

From Albuquerque to Santa Fe I would suggest Highway 14(Turquoise Trail). The towns of Cerrillos and Madrid are interesting little places and the location of several movies. Wild Hogs, John Carpenter's Vampires and Young Guns to name a few.

Is parking a problem in the downtown area? We have seen hotels that are about 4-5 miles from downtown that are rated very high and cheaper than the B&Bs that we have been looking at in the downtown area.
