Have a good Manfrotto, but would like to buy a tri-pod just to use with my BIGGER LENSES. Prefer tripod without head.

What model of Manfrotto do you have now? You're not satisfied with it, so it would be good to know.

Your budget is a major consideration. Really Right Stuff is well-named, but it ain't cheap.

Also -

Check the local pawn shops and college bulletin boards - with school getting out, some students may be off-loading equipment...

I have a Bogen Model 3050 that will hold anything you can put on it. It is lightly used and looks almost new. With the push of the leavers you can lower one or all the legs. If you wish I can send you some photos. I think $75 plus shipping is a very fair price. If interested I am at --Catamaran@comcast.net

I have a Gitzo in exceptional condition that I do not use often enough to justify keeping it.
If any interest contact me for pictures, information and price.

Contact MT Shooter on this site. Or, go to his web site at the Camera Cottage. He sells Nest tripods, great for big lenses.

I have found quite satisfactory the Manfroto 3039 with a mounted round crossbar with a quick detachable mounting plate on each side of it to hold my 600 mm f 4.5 on one side and the 70 - 200 zoom on the other side, so that I can sit behind the photographer's line at the end of one side of the 80 X 120 yard or meter (varies by field) professional soccer field and cover it entirely, one end to the other, while sitting on my plastic carpenters box holding odds and ends. I also often mount this rig on my monopod. Works well, and I do not take up too much room from my fellow photographers. The tripod I also use for architectural work. Weight is no problem.
