I have a 15 year old Minilta Maxum 9000 SLR which I have replaced with a Nikon D7000. I also have two Minolta lenses, one is AF35-105 F3.5 - 4.5 and the other is AF100-300 F4.5 - 5.6. All are in like new condition. I understand that Minolta was bought out and is now Sony. My question is; if I bought a yet to be decided Sony DSLR body would my old auto focus lenses fit and work? As an alternate I would consider selling all or part of my equipment. to anyone interested. Thank you all for your help and keep on keepin on! I really enjoy this site. I'll send along one picture taken with the D7000 for your comments. Thanks much!
Yes, the Minolta AF lenses will work directly (no adaptors) on the Sony Alpha DSLR's. I use the Minolta AF 28-135 lens on my alpha's wilth no problems.

Thank you! Thats good to know. Now I can have a DSLR backup. And recommendations on the best Sony for me to get?
Sony has come out with some new ones lately with the translucent mirror. Not know what you like to hold I might suggest the A580. The translucent mirror alphas seem small to me. Also you might look at the A33. The numbers Sony has assigned make sense in their grouping of cameras, but the numbers are sequential. Although A100 was the first. I love my A500's as they do not have video, however Sony has stopped making the A500 and A550, maybe there is a used one that someone is willing to sell because they upgraded to another Sony.

Thank you chapjohn, Thats good info and I really appreciate it. I'll check them all out. Probably want to go with one thats still relatively new.
Sure, Sony bought them out but didn't change the lens mount. Good news for your old lenses. I have many friends whom shoot Sony.
One nice thing with your Nikon is that it can use almost any Nikon mount lens ever made, even the older manual focus ones(except unmodified Pre-Ai Nikkors). Sony can't use the older manual focus Minolta lenses without adapters (which limit functionality).

Key words-almost any. I had a Nikon EM from the 80's and the lens do not fit my D90. I wonder if Nikon has an adapter to be able to use the old lens in manual mode on the D90????

They should mount & allow images to be taken. That said, you have to shoot in manual & you won't have any metering. You use the LCD/Histogram to get proper exposure. Not good for fast action or rapidly changing light, but just fine for most situations. The EM took Ai mount lenses & thay should mount fine. The older Pre-Ai lenses have an aperture "skirt" that extends down past the mount face & unless it is modified will damage the aperture follower tab.I use older Ai/Ais & pre-Ai modified lenses on a D70s with no problems & moderate a group on Flickr devoted to using the older lenses on Nikon DSLR's.

Thank you all so very much for the help with lenses for the sony. I'll go from there and see what happens. So far I tend to favor the Sony A580 from what I read on reviews. Cheers!
I still use a Sony Alpha 100. I also use several of my minolta lens. My favorite is thw minolta Prime 50mm 1.7. A great lens that does a great job.
