Has anybody here ever shot the Frazzell ice at Yosemite? Or Horsetail falls in Feb. to get the "Firefall" look? How about the Giant Sequoias of the Mariposa grove?

I have seen videos of Frazzell ice. I would think a still image would not show the flowing effect that video does.

I don't understand the "Firefall" look.

The Firefall was an event in the park every evening after dark. A large pile of burning embers were pushed over the edge from Glacier point. From the vally floor it looked like a giant waterfall. Thousands of people would attend this event every night. I think it ended in 1969.

Horsetail Falls is edge-illuminated twice a year by the setting sun. For just a few weeks in February ( and sometimes in a wet August) the narrow waterfall glows golden red, just like the old man-made, ember Firefalls.

Looks like you and I are from the same area, Long Beach. Went to Jordan, class of 71. How about you?

Great video clip, thanks. One of my fellow employees there at the park used to be one of the last pushers for the event. He's told some great stories about it.

In '71 I was just starting a 20-year stretch for molesting a Canonian. In '72, I was granted a pardoned, as long as I promised to keep my Nikonian hands to myself. Hence, my log-in name.

Nah, just another Nikon lie! About six years ago, I moved to Long Beach after my kids graduated from the Glendale school district. Much cooler near the coast.

I was a year behind you Jordan, class of 72 and I got to see the firefalls camping with my parents. I don't remember what year it was.
