Memorial Day in the little town of Thornton Pa.
Flag raising
Amazing Grace
My wife took me to the cemetery to get some photos on Monday. She parked the car and I got out without looking or thinking. I step right on a headstone of a soldier. It didn't have a flag a or even flowers on it. Normally I wouldn't think about it but this time I looked good and hard and was shocked and disgusted. It was like being hit in the stomach by a sucker punch. This headstone was that of a 19 year old kid killed in Iraq in "08. He was a Marine. I couldn't believe no one was there to acknowledge him. 19. just a kid!!! I don't know why, maybe the family moved from the area, maybe it was just to hard for the family. Maybe something happened to them. Just 19. I went to the store and bought some flowers and a small flag, returned to the cemetery and placed them on his headstone. God bless this 19 year old kid and ALL our service people. Didn't get many photos becuz of this. Thank you for your willingness to protect my wife and me !!!!! Sorry for my ranting and raving..
Yeah but it is a worthwhile rant and rave. I hate to think about all the forgotten servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. Your note reminded me about a small local cemetery where I live. There are 2 graves of 2 brothers killed in the Civil War. One was 18, the other 19, killed one year apart. Very sad and moving. Thanks for your rant.
