I have been giving great thought to getting rid of my DSLR and just sticking to my G10.

Reasons:

1. It is a pain to lug around
2. It really can do little more than the G10
3. I do not blow up shots to 8X10
4. For most of my film life I shot a Leica and like range finder cameras.
5. I can crop photos on the computer and achieve what I do on a DSLR in framing.
6. The range finder is not intrusive and I do street photography
7. Why should I keep the DSLR?

no, you should give your dslr to me. lol if you don't need interchangeable lenses, and having to use menus to change fstops and shutter speeds,then get rid of the dslr

What's wrong with keeping both? Use the smaller G-10 for crowded sporting events and the DSLR for portraits or whatever. If you still want to get rid of it...I'll take it!

DSLR: much less noise, faster response, faster longer & shorter lenses, higher usable iso.

G10: smaller, quieter, more portable.
If you're happy with the G 10 keep it.
It's great for what it is.

I'd shed myself of my DSLR if I didn't need it for night time soccer under stadium lights. Any other time I use my three Panasonic Lumix cameras LX5, ZS8 and FZ47.

Me too. I was a news photographer and and a combat photographer. Always shot with a Leica with a 40mm f2 lens. then I got into SLRs and it seems to me that they are just too big and too bulky. Need tripods and all sorts of stuff because of the huge lenses. I just took my leica out and held it for about 15 minutes and realize that it is just a great camera. It is simple to use and has great glass. I can blow up photos and all that. I am looking into getting a scanner so that I can use the electronic stuff to print or at least crop and get what I want to print. Sorta mixing retro with modern.

I will keep the SLR and use it occasionally, but for my take around camera it will be either the Leica or the G10.

Far too attached to my DSLR to say good-by...until something bigger, better, faster comes out. I would only replace it then sell the older model. But if you don't use it & have no sentimental connection...sell it or give it away. Curious as to the make, not familiar with G10.

I have been asking myself a slightly different question...Should I get a DSLR...I always enjoyed my SLR and then when things went digital I went for the Sony Mavica..then Olympus Camedia and finally my 26xzoom Olympus. Light weight, 12mp gives me nice enlargements...just did a 24x36 no problem....
Ive been feeling like looking at the E5 and everytime I hear something like what you are saying I Question myself...WHY?

Size DOES matter. A camera can be too big and cost too much to keep it in a variety of lenses.... unless you have a specific need, as I do for night time soccer photography under stadium lights. Otherwise, why would I want to carry around 2 - 3 pounds of camera and lens when I can carry one weighing 6 to 10 oz. and still get great IQ?

I don't own a DSLR myself, but my main reasons for wanting one are:
1. Most lenses on a megazoom don't go to any smaller f stop than f8, which, offtimes won't give you a lot of DOF when you'd like it.
2. The longest exposure isn't long enough to catch a good lightning flash, i.e., 30 or 60 secs. like the DSLR's have! Mine won't shoot a longer time than 4 secs.
These are why I'd like to have a DSLR, myself.

I'd keep the DSLR simply because once I own something, I never get rid of it! No other reason.
I just saw where you can get a "skin" for your iPhone that makes it look like a Leica!
