Some shots from Miami, Florida.
These shots were all made this past January. I experimented with two of them while the other remained as the original.
First the original. This is what I found inside a Lebanese restaurant where I was having dinner with my wife and one of my children. These ornaments were facing a large window that was supplying a fair amount of ambient light and still I had to go to ISO 400. I used a Panasonic GF-1 with the 14-45 OIS lens.
The second shot is a water lily that I photographed at a local Botanical Garden and for those who know Miami, it was not Fairchilds. For this shot I used my Olympus EPL-1. I used layers in Photoshop and then using a mask I applied a Gaussian Blur to the whole frame while revealing only the lily.
I did a similar treatment to the last shot of a sailboat near Key Biscayne. This last shot was made using my Panasonic and the Olympus 12-42 kit lens.
I like the dreamy effect resulting from blurring the background while bringing details to a selected part of the subject.
Interesting shots. Nice work on no.3, the people and the boat really stand out, has a 3-D effect.
The first shot is quite interesting. I like the effect of the blur in the second shot. It does make the flower stand out. The last one is my least favorite; but I must admit that the effect does focus the eyes of the viewer on the subject which is important. Good work.
#3 makes me dizzy to look at it... Horrible !

We are all different, right? We all have an artist inside us and we look at subjects in different ways.
I like the effect I created but I can perfectly understand that it is not for everybody.
