I used 3 photos bracketed 1 stop apart and layered them with photomatix. I couldn't believe how easy it is and how they turned out.

Wonderful HDR, Mike! When were you there to catch the snow? They had about 6" four or five days before we got there...were you there then?

Very funny, no snow. Just white cake-like mud.

Wow! I wasn't being funny! I know the mud ou mean but was never aware that under some conditions it could reflect blue just like snow! Amazing. I've lots of winter shots from the Badlands with REAL snow looking identical to that.
Again, that is one super wowzer of an HDR. Y gotta be almost as proud of that as you justly are of Sadie and Carter. Give them both my best!

Best regards,
Dave

I thought you were giving me a hard time about the "snow". I'm a little frustrated that it looks that way. I've had people look at the photos and ask if we had snow while we were there. I will tell them hi for you. I am going to try uploading a panoramic photo too. Let me know what you think.

Great color in the clouds and sky. Love the reflection in the puddle and the way the light is falling over the buttes. The sun is a little bright. It distracts. The buttes are not in sharp focus, and I always look forward to seeing that rock detail in a shot like this. There is some pretty dramatic red haloing on those buttes and a lens flare. This is a tough shot and a great attempt, but not quite there IMHO.

I purposely left the lens flair in the photo, it's actually part of what I like in the photo. I didn't see the haloing around the buttes, good eye. I considered reducing some of the brightness of the sun but kind of like the effect of what real life vision is like looking into the sun and not being able to see the subject around it very well. But now you have given me things to think about. Thanks for looking and commenting.
