My Rant on China

This is my rant on China.
I am from Canada but I can't believe that I am the only one that feels this way.
If everybody is so worried about climate change, pollution, and unemployment why don't they try doing what I have been doing for the past year. STOP buying goods manufactured in China whenever possible.
I have nothing against the citizens of China. It is their government and it's policies that upset me so much.
They have more pollution and greenhouse gasses being created there than anywhere else in the world. Their governments main focus is to increase manufacturing with little regard to the atmosphere as can be found out very easily. I watched a report, I think it was on CNN, the other night and a surgeon was being interviewed there. He said he and other doctors were moving out of Beijing due to the high pollution and smog levels. If the doctors are leaving doesn't that signal that something there is terribly wrong. Every time there is anything on the news about China and they show ordinary citizens are seen walking around with mask type filters and handkerchiefs on because of the pollution.
The government is keeping their currency undervalued to make exports cheaper. They are destroying the economies of so many countries it is sickening. How many people do you know that have lost their jobs in the last few years because of manufacturing being moved out of their country. Their people are underpaid and overworked to help accomplish this. They are now coming into the developed world's countries and buying them up bit by bit. They have so much cash that they are turning into the bank of the world. What is going to happen when they decide to tighten up on lending and start calling in their loans. What are the governments going to do when they can't borrow any more from them. They have let so much manufacturing go that their tax revenues are so low they need to borrow just to keep going.
If the world's governments would start imposing tariffs on Chinese manufactured products, at a high enough level then hopefully some of the products produced there would be priced high enough that it would be economical to produce them where they were made before being moved to China. This would create many jobs and additional revenue for the governments through manufacturing and income taxes. I realize we sell there too but I would be totally amazed if our sales there are anywhere near our purchases from them.

These are just a few of my feelings. It would probably take a book to list and talk about all of them. Please feel free to add to my list. I am sure there must be others that feel as I do so all you guys that like to go on about your government, lets hear from you.

Ron. You are not alone, I agree with you completely. People piss and moan about the economy and they won't do a damn thing about it.

I, too, agree with you. We can tax them but then the people with money in our government would rebel because they're getting rich from the cheap Chinese employment and their adoration of the bottom line...the almighty dollar. We need people with fortitude in our government but unfortunately here in the US, the Supreme Court is voting more and more for corporations. They are very business minded, not caring about consumers.

I've stopped shopping at the general merchandise section of Wal-Mart, almost everything from China. I do shop the grocery section but only buy American (Canada included) Before I make a purchase I look for where it is made.

Here's how to tell if your purchase is from China, look on the barcode if the first numbers are 690, 691, 692, it was made in China, 471 is Taiwan,

If it starts with a zero it was made in the US or Canada, 00 or 09

I like how the vp of petco is now up in arms about how they will no longer import certain pet foods from china, they have been poisoning American pets for years and now they decide to do something. Kinda sounds like they finally got caught. Don't buy anything from China, lead paint on toys, pesticides in babies formula, and the list goes on and on.

I also try not to purchase from China, especially food. With me it's a safety issue. They are well documented of adding cheap byproducts to make more money . "Melamine in baby formula, dog food of the most publicized".
Our government have put such stringent laws in affect on our producers about cleanliness and safety that it has driven them into going offshore. Do you think that there plant over there are clean.?
What if any rules have they got in effect for food Products that are coming from these countries.
Side note do a search for how all the shrimp that comes from overseas are grown, especially where. I refuse to eat them unless they have a stamp from N.A.
Another thing to watch out for is the famous PREPARED FOR .Most are prepared overseas.Big businesss are finding ways to get there products on the shelves faster than the government can pass laws on the regulations

Petco recently announced that they will stop selling "certain dog food snacks" by next March. Why so long if it is bad for your dog's health? If I were a dog food customer, would stop BUYING immediately and all their products would be suspect.

It's really the corporations not so much the Gov., it's us. Whenever you can buy american made, even if it costs you a little more. I don't shop Wallmart because they are China's biggest client and they pay their workers gets paid much less than Costco and Trader Joe's. Don't buy anything from China unless you really need it and can't find it somewhere else. It's better for the country.

Crikey !! Here in UK China is on most everything. They have got the world by its short & curlies. The great Cheiro predicted many many years ago that "The world will be in the yellow grip" This was long before Mao & his merry men. A frightening thought. They are a cruel people.

It is for this reason I bought the Japanese made Fuji X20 rather than the chinese made Nikon 7800 when I was looking for a DSLR alternative.
