This photo of the Red-shouldered Hawk was taken in my backyard with my Nikon D300 camera with a Nikon 500 mm f-4 manual focus lens and Nikon 1.4X Teleconverter. The camera was setup for manual exposure, ISO 800, 1/1250, and f-11. I used Lightroom 3, Photoshop CS 4, Nik Define, and Topaz Adjust 5 to enhance this second photo. It was mid day when I took this photo.

The following programs/plug-ins were used for;
Lightroom 3 cropped and adjusted exposure
Nik Define Eliminated the noise in the background
Topaz Adjust 5 I used Mild Details preset to improve the clarity of the Hawks feathers
Photoshop CS 4 I use to enhance the tonal range

I would appreciate your feedback and critique on comparing the pre and post processing of these photos. Thanks, Arnold

I am a new into this hobby so take my comments lightly. I think the finished version is very crisp and clean. I like everything you did however, if I had my druthers I would have changed the background to a hue of blue.

Berliner, First let thank you for your comments. I tried changing the BG Hue to blue but it also wanted to change some of the Hawk's feather to blue too. Arnold

It appears you haven't asked a "specific" question about either of the photos as the "rules" say for; thus it appears the admin. moved it to the gallery.

That aside, I like the effort you put into the second offering; I am envious of your long lens..good shootin'

Excuse me for "butting" in on your post but I wanted to say that I have to agree with what Berliner said about your picture...the blue does (to me) add more contrast to your picture. I, too, don't know a lot about photography (I just enjoy taking pictures) but I know what looks good to me!! ;) and I say, "excellent job".

Arnold, I think the original photo is sharp and has immediate visual impact. I think your PP kinda overcooks it in an unnatural way. It seems most people disagree with me though. As for the photo being moved I think the Administrator was incorrect. You implied a specific question regarding the original and PP aspects of the photo. I think he split hairs with you. :)
