I requested a printed catalog from one of my sign hardware suppliers this morning. They had the PDF version, and the online catalog, but said they were happy to send a printed copy, because "they have purchased carbon offset credits", for the print version.
Just what does that mean, in real life? Donation to some congressman's re-election fund? Planted some trees, saved some whales, paid a printed catalog tax?
I am not sure why your supplier is purchasing carbon offset credits other than they maybe completely sold in to the climate change theory lock stock and barrel. Carbon offset credits are what the Cap and Trade legislation was to put into place in this country. It was seen for what it actually is, just some bullshit taxing scheme with a couple of large corporations and connected individuals looped in... Al Gore owned stock in the exchanges that never came to fruition and I believe that it was Goldman Sach's and maybe a couple of other large banking concerns that were to run and profit from the exchanges... basically companies and industries were to be assigned an allotment of CO2 emissions by the government, this did not only include their manufacturing processes but also included the amount of energy they consumed in performing their business, cars electricity, etc. If a corp exceeded those credits then they could purchase credits from the government, if a business did not consume its allotment it could sell the unused allotment on the exchanges... It was all BullShit and the republicans were able to stop it.
Some committed greenies supposedly buy such credits off of private exchanges that were set up when the federal program failed, Gore is also involved in these... But it is just a sham, people are paying for something that does not really exist.
If I were you I would change suppliers if it would be feasible to do so and let them know why.
