LED Lights on Cars

Here's an interesting question about LED taillights on cars. We all know you can be stopped for a burned out taillight. So, what happens when one of a dozen or more LEDs in a taillight start failing. Can a cop stop you if fewer than half are burned out? Someone must have given this some thought, since LEDs have been on cars for years.

You've probably noticed traffic lights with burned out LEDs. Could someone challenge a red light ticket if more than half the LEDs were not working? Probably not, since the green light would not be lit.

The Australian Design rules for vehicles to be roadworthy is the product of the voltage and the wattage of the bulb thus producing the required standard of brightness for the required roadworthy standard.
I am sure that as long as the external measured brightness is conforming to the required standard, wherever, then it is ok.

You would be better advised to contact the relevant department where you travel rather than peoples' guessing.
