I have a Nikon D5300 that I want to use with my SB-800 and my SB-600. I can set up the SB-800 fine but cannot see how to use the SB-600 at the same time. Any suggestions?

you could use the 600 to trigger the 800

First of all, do you have an SB 800 Speedlight or an SU 800 Commander unit?
They are two different beasts.
I suspect you are talking about the SB 800.

The SB 600 does not have a commander (master) mode, so it cannot be used to control the SB 800.

Setting up the SB 800 as a master here: link

Setting up the SB 600 as a remote here: link
Note: I have never used the SB600 as a remote (I use SB 800's and 910)- someone jump in and correct this if it's not right.

First of all, do you have an url=http://imaging.n... (show quote)

I have a few SB-800's and a couple of SB-600's.
You've got it right.

I have D200's which have Commander mode on their pop-ups, but my D2Xs doesn't HAVE a pop-up as it's a pro-level body (neither do D3's or D4's).
So....On the D2Xs, I HAVE to use an SB-800 as a Commander to set off the other 800's or 600's. Or use my my wireless triggers if I don't care about TTL.

I posted this a few days ago but don't see it listed?
I have a D5300, a SB-800, SB-600 and a SU-800. The SU-800 works great with the SB-800 but cannot get it to work at the same time with the SB-600, can anyone help?

This is like the movie Groundhog Day of 50 First dates.
Don't start another post on this. Use the first one (link above) that already has answers.

The set-up posted above for the SB 600 as a ttl remote should be the same if you are using the SU-800 as the commander.

I have all 3, SB600, SB800 and a SU800 because the D5300 does not have the command mode.

The link to set up the SB600 as a remote worked, now the SU800 fires both the SB600 and the SB800.
Thanks

You can cheat and put the SB800 in SU-4 mode which will make it respond to ANY flash. Makes it a dumb slave. Beware as it will also fire for point and shoots and any other camera flashes in range, but it will allow you to use both speedlights.

I use the SU800 with 2 910's and 1 600...no problems at all. You have to have the 600 set to remote...set the group and channel and off ya go. D5100 body.

key there is you are using an SU800 as a control. Remember that the SB600 can be used remotely so the SB800 would have to be used on camera as control unless the camera has built-in commander mode. The SB600 can not be the commander.

But, that makes it a 'dumb' slave.
To get TTL operation and vary the speedlite's output from the camera, you must use the Commander/Remote operation of the CLS

My point exactly... The SB600 has no commander functions. It can only be used remote.

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product-Archive/Flashes/SB-600-AF-Speedlight.html

Now This means that either the camera has to have commander or you have to use the SB800 as commander and put the SB600 on remote, setting the channel etc.

On the SB800 you will have to go into commander mode and put the SB800 on the hot shoe.

Here is the SB600 manual
http://cdn-10.nikon-cdn.com/pdf/manuals/Speedlights/SB-600.pdf

It will work as a remote flash only.. I have provided a link to the pdf of the manual.
