Contest Question

The contest does not show names until after the voting is complete. Some of the photos have names in the watermark. Should that be allowed? Should those be deleted as they give an unfair edge to certain photos, if other names are removed?
Comments?

I don't think a watermark would give an image any advantage.

Doc, they should be removed, but probably are not. The voting should be blind, but there is also no way to know how much lobbying goes on by PM, since it's an open popular vote.
But it is, what it is. It's the best that St3v3n can do, since only a few select will actually fully respect the rules. It works quite well, considering. ;-)

Have you gone through prior contest results to verify that the watermarks give anyone an unfair edge?

I have just started noticing watermarks on photo contest entries. I don't know if there is any advantage, but it certainly doesn't fit with the spirit of the game.

To be fair i'd be inclined not to vote for images with water marks in the spirit of fairness to everyone else who plays by the rules.

Kind of sad that people would want to try to rig the vote. After all your only getting confidence in the quality of your photos and if you cheated even if you win you lose.

Playing "devil's advocate"...Would think that any watermark(especially if known) might lead to an unfair advantage. Are the contests based on photo content/merit alone or not?? If "alone", definitely unfair for watermarks.

If you're voting for a friend's picture because it has his watermark, rather than because of the merit of the image, you are the dishonest person!
