I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, I spent a fair amount of time in the search area but couldn't find the answer.

What is the T & W button on the left side of the FZ200?

Though I don't have that camera, it seems logical that those are the buttons for "Tele" and "Wide angle". (Should be explained in the Owners manual).

Thanks for the reply, however I haven't bought the camera as yet so I didn't have access to the Owners manual

Actually, you do have access to the manual:
http://www.camerauserguide.net/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz200-camera-users-manual-guide-owners-instruction/14129
Scroll down a bit, there are two downloads in English: a Basic and an Advanced one.

See Page 71 in the Advanced manual.

They provide an alternative way of zooming the lens, rather than using the switch on the top plate.

Alternative zooming from the one on the top of camera. If using manual focus, you can use to adjust focus.
