Sorry, it appears to be sitting on a V.W.’s frame. I’d say it was a knock off.
Body appears to be fiberglass.

But still a nice pictures and that’s what counts…

What!?
Really!??

*pouts*

It's been sitting in front of this antique place for a couple of years now... and I didn't ask about the story behind it.
Just went with the face value...

*sighs*

Well, now.... crap.

that particular mercedes ssk roadster if had been real would be worth north of a million. they are classics but never came with hot pink fenders. it is what is called a kit car and is a reproduction of a late 1930/s mercedes. they were real popular in the 1980's and i believe if my addled middle aged brain is still working were called excaliburs. still very nice photos. they were out around the same time someone was selling front hoods for vw's with a rolls royce grill and winged victory hood ornament. I bet if you prod Ian he will even admit to owning one !* heavy guffaw*

*grins as she reads*
Well... thank you, S-man.
(Yeah, he probably will *snickers* )

I dunno... I should have known better maybe.
Shows how gullible I am... and how bad I wanted to swim with the BIG fish for a change! LMAO

Thanks all for the compliments on the photos... but geez... if it's not the real thing, what exactly does it matter how good the photos are? *sighs*

I got other good pics from the day though, so it wasn't a total waste... and I learned something new, too!
(Although I don't know how I'd know the difference next time!?)

One suggestion.............open your lens and try and get rid of all junk in the background.
I really believe that one of the most important points in photography is background. I want to one of two things.
1. get rid of it
2 enhance it.

It seems to me, Tilde, that even if it is a knock-off, it appears vintage in it's own right.
How can it be fiberglass if there a rust-crack right behind the radiator grill? Maybe that's metal and other parts, f-glass.
Good shots.

Tilde is correct! It is a knockoff on a VW chassis and the body is fiberglass. The Merc star may be real but the"car" is a fake. Were that a real Mercedes it wouldn't have been there for 30 seconds mch less years.

Excalibur’s were based on a 1929 M.B. SSK and in later years they had a corvette engine and there seating area was from a VW rabbit.
