I have just purchased a canon SX 50 after reading rave reviews and seeing great pictures.
I am not ready to go there yet but I can't figure out how to get Raw images.
I have read the manual and checked out all the menu items but cannot fine how to turn the camera from jpeg to raw. Would someone who knows this camera help me out? Please.

It's right about 1:06 into the video she talks about the new RAW ability of the SX50. It's very brief, but it may get you started.

Look on page 146 of your manual.

Hi spitload,press func set button to bring up all your settings on screen press iso button to scroll down to jpeg logo. And then select.

Make sure you do NOT have the Mode Dial set to "A"utomatic because RAW is NOT available in that mode!!

To use RAW on your SX50 go to pg 146 of your manual. It says..
Press [func] button, choose [jpeg], and then choose your option which is..... JPEG......RAW.....JPEG+RAW.
I use a SX40 and I do the same with my camera. Enjoy

You've probably discovered by now what wasn't mentioned by some of the above posters: raw is not available in all shooting modes.
However, once you set it, such as in Av or Tv, you can then turn the mode dial to another option, such as SCN (and then func to HQ, for burst mode) - which is not available in raw, and still have raw when you go back to Av or Tv. I use raw+jpg in those modes that support it.
And when you're ready, you can set the two custom buttons, or the shortcut button on the back, for even more quick-access shooting options!

You have discovered that the instruction book is not too clear.It needs a Dummies book but it has not been written.You can purchase a cheat sheet but I have not tried them.I just fiddle until something haappens.

You can't do RAW if you have the camera mode to Auto. Set it to P (program) and now press the FUNC SET on the back of the camera. Look at the icons on the left of the screen. Scroll down to RAW and select. You can now select JPEG, RAW, or RAW + JPEG.

Hi buttonman40, I hope that you are right about doing that [RAW] on your sx40. I do not find any RAW function on my SX40. Did they add it after I bought mine or is it possible to add it somehow? If so please tell me how.

The SX-40 did not support RAW.
