Brick and Mortar Stores

This week I needed to buy a 12Amp 120-250volt fuse for the battery maintainer/charger on my boat. Somehow the fuse had blown and the "house" battery was down to 8 volts since it wasn't charging.
These are ceramic fuses similar to older glass tube type car fuses. I checked a few electrical supply stores as well as Home Depot and nobody had it. They all recommended the local Grainger store.
While sitting in their parking lot I checked E-bay and Amazon on my phone. They both listed the fuse for $4.99 for a pack of 5 and free shipping. But they were made in China(where else?)
I wanted to give the local "Brick and Mortar" store the business but Grainger wanted $19.99 for a 5 pack, plus 9.5% sales tax and these were made in China also.
So as it turns out I ordered them from E-Bay and had them in 2 days.

MORAL OF THE STORY: I don't mind giving local businesses a try, but at more than 4 times the going price I can see why some Brick and Mortar stores are gone. I mean Come on! $4 dollars plus a pop for fuses! I realize they have payroll and bills themselves, but I think that is ridiculous.
Just like all the camera stores that used to be around. They abused the customer soooo badly(stuck it in their back side) that the customer went elsewhere.

I have to say, I agree.
I'm also totally amazed the your sales tax is 9.5%. I thought NY's was high at 8.625. Whew. Don't blame you.

Grainger is NEVER the bargin source. Their big advantage is most everything is in stock, and if you are a commercial customer, they deliver for no additional cost, the same day.

Finally, someplace that has higher sales tax than Los Angeles County.

That's why we call it Crook(Cook) County. The land of career politicians! Makes me want to puke. Middle class pays for everything.
The rich have "loopholes" and are the politicians(or their supporters) who "tax the middle class to the verge of poverty." Then they give the tax revenue one way or another to the so-called impoverished, who in turn vote the Bastards back into office because they(the impoverished) get everything for nothing and need not seek real employment.
Plus every time the "breeders" pop out another little welfare recipient, they get more welfare money. They then take their Caddy, Lincoln, Audi or Lexus to the grocery store to stock up on steaks, chops and roasts paid for by my tax money while us working stiffs struggle to have burgers and chicken.
Amid all this our jobs are under constant attack by unskilled, illiterate immigrants who don't give a damn about this country or it's people at all.
Shame on them all especially the democratic senator from Illinois.
This country is in Dire Straights thanks to jerks like him.
