If my memory serves me and I will get a lot of flac about this, college Commercial Photo instructor and master Photographer once remarked, "With the same size image, F stop and film grain/sensor, DOF will be the same regardless of focal length"

Boy that should stir things up!

I guess so, if the distance to subject is adjusted for varied focal length, preserving the magnification. Is this what is meant by "same size image"?

This is absolutely correct. The difficulty in proving or demonstrating this phenomenon is obtaining identical images taken with different lenses at same settings. The major difference will be the working distance with each lens.
