Crashing ice: A photo challenge

Here are some pix from the time trials of the Red Bull Crashing Ice competition in Saint Paul this weekend. Skaters average 30-40 mph and, I am told, can reach 70 mph on the quarter-mile track with tight turns. They took five skaters off on stretchers Thursday, and tonight they go down four abreast, roller-derby style. The speed and lighting make photography here challenging. Try it, if the tour comes anywhere near your town.

Sounds like that ambulance in the first shot has lots of backup waiting in the wings!!!

I have this theory that Red Bull is a parent company for some Hospital Conglomerate. Nice Pics.
