Nikon Sb700 Speedlight batteries

I recently bought a SB700 speedlight. How long should I keep the rechargeable batteries in the unit without use. I'm concerned with leakage after eventual run-down from dormancy.
I have 2 sets of 4 rechargeable Precision Design AA's(2900mAh)NiNH from Cameta and usually switch them out befor shooting with the flash. I was wondering how long I should trust them unattended in the unit? Thanks.

I use my SB-600 every weekend, and charge the "used" set upon return, swapping in the second set.

I have no clue.

But I bought an SB700 about four months ago and put in four Duracells. They are still showing nearly full charge.

I bought an SB700 a week before Christmas and put in four Duracells also. I have fired the flash at least 200 times and have nearly a full charge left too.

I can't recall any rechargable NiMH batteries ever leaking in anything I have. I left some in an old handheld amateur radio transceiver for 2 years once. No leak and still had a good charge on them.

Don't think I would worry about it, unless it is an extended time of several months, with older batteries. I have an SB800 & SB 600, and have never had any problems over several years.

Thanks for your input my friends. With as expensive as these flashes are I didn't want to press my luck.

Don,

I have had problems in the past with NiMH but not leaking, they would discharge and not fully recharge. I use them in an older SB800 & Sigma Ring Flash. I followed a thread on another site and purchased the Sanyo NiHM batteries and charger. NiMH problems have vanished.

I've heard good reviews on those Sanyo batteries. How do you like them and do they "last?" They are supposed to be rechargeable for thousands of times.

I've been doing it for years, never had a leak with rechargeable. For the last year or so I've been using the new style that come pre charged because they do not drain much while stored.
