Hi...I'm a semi-retired pro photographer specializing in commercial images and some portraiture. I have a client base in musical industry products. I have had a Tamron SP150-600mm lens on order for a few months and am becoming frustrated with the long delivery time. In the meantime I would like to get some feedback from those lucky few who have gotten one of these lenses and are working with it. I am shooting a 5D Mk II most of the time. Any tricks or suggestions to optimize images taken with this lens? The obvious attraction is the reach for the price. I'm aware that low light shooting is not a feature of this lens. I'm hoping that image sharpness will still be excellent, but at the price it's hard to imagine that it will be tack sharp. Observations in this area would be helpful. If you have one, do you like it?

I had Sigma 150-500 and sold it, I was waiting for Tamron and gave up so today I purchased nikon 300 4.0 and while comparing some of my images I can see my Nikon dancing circles around Sigma.

I just preordered from ADORAMA, on back order. Hope it arrives before Christmas 2014? Want it for baseball, football, outside hockey and Lacrosse. Have the SIGMA 70-200mm f2.8 and am very happy with it, just needed a little more reach.

Just got an email from B&H that the lens was shipped for Canon. I ordered it at the beginning of March.

Have a look at these as well. This is a friend of mines Flicker page. I don't know if you need to be signed up in Flicker to view it or not but here's the link. I'm going to post the link twice. Once with the s after https and one without since some work and some don't.

This is truly good news. At least there is hope that I will see my order filled some day. I ordered March 15th from Adorama. Thanks for the information.

I often do business with both B&H and Adorama. In this case I ordered from the latter. As of right now B&H still lists the lens as available for pre-order, meaning of course that they don't have any in inventory. They are no doubt filling backorders with whatever they were able to get in a recent shipment. Since B&H and Adorama are very similar businesses and both are located in Manhattan, they will doubtless both get similar shipments until the backorders are filled. I'll be better off in the Adorama cue rather than starting at the end of the line at B&H I think. Thanks for the suggestions however.

I am a Canon shooter, my friends shoot Canon and Nikon and more Canon people have their lenses before Nikon.. from what I read but don' remember where, that Tamron made a deal with Canon to produce their lenses first and Nikon to fallow soon..don't know if it is true, but I know of more SP 150-600 lens for Canon out there then Nikon..

I just canceled my order for this lens from ADORAMA, didn't want to wait till December and Christmas. I even contacted TAMRON and they couldn't answer my question when the lens will hit the USA market. Something smells fishy that the company can't come up with an answer.
Instead I ordered the SIGMA 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS for $869.00 from B&H PHOTO , this is with an instant $200.00 off.I shoot sports from the sidelines and feel that the 100mm difference will not make that much of a difference. Anyone out there with a little input please on my decision? Thanking you all in advance.
I know this lens will be great for outdoors and no good for in hockey games, this I know.

Protecting his goalie...... Sigma 70-200 f/2.8

I ordered mine Dec. 24 and it was delivered to my office on May 20 (Nikon mount) but I actually did not get it until Monday as I was traveling. Initial impressions are very positive.

Now that the lens is really in production and the initial issues with focus on older Canon bodies are resolved (new firmware as of Feb 8--you must send the lens to Tamron for the update) I think the wait times will decrease. Having said that there is a lot of interest in this lens and a lot of people have them on order. Would suggest you get it on order (got mine at B&H and they have a 30 day return policy if you are not satisfied--do not charge your credit card until shipment).
