Upgrading from Nikon D90

I have the opportunity to upgrade from a Nikon D90 to a Nikon D7000 gently used and a seldom used Nikkor 28-300 Zoom lens - 3.5-5.6 ED VR lens, Kirk Quick Release plate, new 77mm circular polarizer and the camera bag that came with camera. A friend of mine knows the seller well and I have seen her posts of her pictures for months. She has three Nikon cameras and wants to upgrade to photograph birds. I take photos of birds, otters, deer and dogs. I have a sigma 120-400 lens, Nikon 18-200 VR, nikon 105 Macro, Nikon 24-120 2.8.
Appreciate your thoughts. Seller wants $1,350 for all items or
$600 for camera
$800 for lens
Thank You!

You already have good lenses. Why don't you consider a new D7100 from someone like B&H and get a full warranty from Nikon. Just thought. Good luck.

While the D7000 is a fine camera, and the 28-300mm is a very nice FX lens, the asking prices are at the high end of the used market for them both and the increase in quality over what you already own is minimal for that much investment. I would also suggest the D7100 or the soon-to-be-released D7200 as a potential upgrade consideration.

People often think they can make big money selling old equipment, so they price it too high.

Me too. I think that is a little expensive. I just bought a new d7100, 18-140 lens, nice bag, extra battery, 16gb card at B+H for only a little more than what they are asking. You already have some pretty nice stuff. Save your money.

The nikon 28-300 is gently used for good reason, it isn't all that great. From D90 to D7000 isn't much of a improvement. Keep what you got and save for D4s and 400 2.8 that is good start for bird photography.

If that is a good start for bird photography, I'm really curious what is a good end.

Not a good deal for you. Warranty does not pass ownership and you can get a D7100, new, for less. Check out B&H and Adorama and you won't go wrong.
