Does anyone own a Canon EOS 5D? If so tell me what you think of it. Would you recommend it?

The 5D is one of the most highly respected Full-Frame cameras out there. It can not be beat for landscape/nature photography. There are several users here who have shown excellent representations of their work.

Many portrait photographers use one. It's a professional camera, there's not much it won't do, especially combined with the right lens(es) and a talented shooter.

I have a 7D for over a year...it is considered to be a pro camera,it does not have Action,landscape,flower,etc.settings.as was said earlier with the right lens and the right photograper it is just as good as the 5D

The 7D is a newer camera, newer even than the Mark II version of the 5D. Different AF system, I believe. The biggest diff. between the 7D and the 5D is the 7D has the APS-C "crop" sensor. However, for portrait work, it would probably be damn near as good as the 5D. It's also about a grand cheaper, list price-wise.

Where is the sale you are talking about? B&H Camera's price for a 5D (body only) is around $2100, use that for a benchmark. Significantly less and I'd be very cautious...

JimH. I made a mistake when I was telling you about the 5D. The 7 D is the camera I am thinking about. I'm sorry. I saw it in the Camera Dept. at Best Buy the other day, on sale for $1,799.99 with a 28-135 lens. I have a Canon EOS 20D at the present time

You'll find the 7D quite a step up from the 20D in terms of functionality. Amazon/Adorama/B&H are your benchmarks for price. Buy retail if you MUST touch it first, etc.

I have the 5D you were first asking about. I like the camera very much. It came witha 24-105L which I gave to my wife to put on her 30D. I did have the 28-135 lens you are considering and did not care for it. build quality was not very good, movement in the barrel was excessive. instead I got a 24-70L f2.8, much better.

Yeah, the 28-135 is the "kit lens" for the 7D - it's not bad, but it certainly doesn't stack up against either of your two L lenses....

Ha ha, that's my go to lens until I can afford L. I have to use an elastic hair tie to keep the lens from creeping. Scratch that, slamming might be a better verb!
