I am looking just for a body for a Nikon 3200 (preferred) or a 5200.

Looking to pay under $200

If your really into macro, I'm guessing the 5200 would
do better for you because it has the tilt screen.
Good luck.

Good point, but I actually prefer the 3200. I am always afraid the moving view screen will break.

I am just looking for a low end, not too bad Nikon that is with the new sensor, works with my lenses, and photo editing software, ect. So 3200 and 5200 should be the cheapest.

I did find a new 3200 for $250

That sounds like a great price. I have the same problem.
I have a 3100 and love it. I hate to switch but The 14 MP
just doesn't cut it when you need to crop. I am buying
a 7100 today from B&H. $1100. Ouch.

I was planning to get the 7100, but the RAW files do not work with my version of Photoshop... SOOO glad I borrowed a friends to see if there was much difference between the 3200 and the 7100.

Decided there are more ways to adjust the manual modes and options, but not much difference in the image quality. Between the 3200 (or 5200) and the 7100.

But either is a big change from the 3100. So you should be happy

Hmm, I have never heard that before. I don't shoot RAW.
You know it's funny, most photo's I see by people that shoot RAW and tweak them I don't care for.
They are fun to look at but the reds are usually to red and they look more artificial.
Many give me the feel I'm looking at something animated.
A little tweaking can be good, but mostly I'm not to impressed.

Guess I'm just old fashioned. I went to a photo exhibit last night and many of my favorites were black and white.
I went to an amazing photo exhibit last week in LA. it was celebrating National Geographics 140 years of photography.
Oh my gosh!!! incredible.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on and on.

Without attempting to deter you from your stated mission and the simplicity of your request, here is a link to KEH, and the page that has the D3200, in various condition.

Far cry from your budget but KEH is the most likely purveyor of good used camera's at prices representative of the used market. Go here and scroll down to a few D3200:

http://www.keh.com/Camera/format-Digital/system-Nikon-Digital/category-Camera-Bodies?s=1&bcode=DN&ccode=2&cc=2852&r=WG&f

At 24 Mp and your budget, cdrtainly understandable why you would choose the D3200.

Now as a reality check on the budget, I always go to eBay and see what the "completed listiings" (sold) for the last 60 days reveal. No matter what you think of eBay, it has it's finger on the pulse of used prices. Frankly, I've been selling cameras on eBay for 15 years now. Never a problem, never a loss if you are careful and pay attention to the system. I never buy from anyone without at least 200 sales and 99.5% positive feedback.

Be that as it may, here is a link to todays Sold Listings on the D3200:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=Nikon+D3200+body&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

This is todays search for sold listing for the last 60 days. It looks like a fortuitous timing will be needed to get you under $300, or finding a total NOOB on Craigslist.

This is the simplest answer i can come up with, without injecting my own experiences and suggestions into your very likely "best for you" question as you posted it. 5 pages of closed listings with final prices in green.

Totally Objective.

I found one on sale for Mothers say for $250 so will probably get that one. It was probably refurbished, but not really a big deal when it has a warrantee. It was also the red one, which I wanted when I bought my black one;-)

I am saving up for 2 D800's... But they are a lot more.
