I'm looking at a Vivitar 2x AF teleconverter for general use now & then. Obviously cost is an issue or I wouldn't be looking at Vivitar. I assume AF is auto focus. Any comments ?

Make sure it is compatible with the lens you want to use it on, some converters are "interference" converters when used with some lenses and they will not be compatible. You can even ruin your lense trying to mate them up.

The Vivitar teleconverter works quite well with non-HSM lenses. With the newer lenses sporting HSM focusing, the teleconverter interferes with the operation of the camera...like a seizure. You have to set the lens to manual to use the teleconverter. Anyway, this is my experience with Pentax cameras.

I got a Tamron 2X Teleconverter and was very disappointed. Ended up getting a Nikon 1.7 Teleconverter that I use with the Nikon 70-200mm and results were much better.

Not sure about the Vivitar. If you get this let us know how well it works.
