If you travel from on the road between Edinburgh and Stirling near Falkirk and Grangemouth you cannot fail to notice two huge stainless steel horse heads that have been erected on the Forth and Clyde Canal. The Kelpies name is taken from the Celtic mythological shape-shifting beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 10 horses that were believed to haunt the lochs (lakes) and rivers of Scotland and Ireland. Kelpies were said to transform into beautiful women and lure men to their deaths (men eh, what are we like?).
Each sculpture is 30m (100 feet) tall and weighs 300 tons. They are a monument to the historical part that the horse has played in Scottish life and industry from farming to road transport and of course towing canal barges during the industrial revolution.

Hello Jim
Great set. You have caught some much better perspectives on these now that you can get around the site. Good job!

Thanks david, some of the sky is a bit dodgy as I tried to erase the power lines. It was a nice day for it.

Thank's for your comment.
Great shots and interesting history
They're fantastic. Have you taken any at night when they're lit up? I saw some fantastic shots on Facebook. If you google the Kelpies, there are hundreds of great photos (not better than yours though).
