EF-S + Teleconverter

Just curious, since I like to play with combinations. Will an EF-S lens work on a full frame body with either a teleconverter or an extender in between? If so, what happens with the 1.6 factor?

I think they will, but you'll get vignetting. Not a 100% sure though. I have Canon film camera that has had this problem, in fact my 18-55 EF-S lens wouldn't even mount.

No. First off, the EF-S lenses will not work with any of Canons full frame cameras. That said, the rest of your question is not applicable since the lens will not work.

Here's the rub - the CANON teleconverters only fit EF style lenses, and of them, only "L" series, and some selected Non-"L" lenses. In other words, they don't even fit all the EF lenses. Therefore, you couldn't attach an EF-S lens to any of the CANON tele's. So the answer to your question is still NO, you can not go F/F Camera-->tele-->EF-S lens.

I do not know if any other 3-rd party converters will do what you want.

I saw a third party one on the web that stated it would accept EF or EF-S. That made curious if that combination would work. Someone else stated that if it was possible it would cause vinegting. But depending on what you were doing, I suppose that could potentially be cropped.
Thanks

Hi Virgil: You didn't mention which brand of camera you actually have. But I'm gathering from the EF-S designation it's a Canon. That being said I remember from reading the manuel for my Canon 5d Mark II full frame. That no, they will not work on that model or as far as I understand any of Canon's full frame bodies. As has been mentioned here I don't know about after market converters. That would be interesting to know.

I have been looking high & low for a 2x extender for a EF-S with no luck. I have went to Canon customer service to see if one is available. I am waiting on a reply now. It has only been 2 days since I sent the request.
There are many made for the EF lens.

Canon's teleconverters DO NOT fit EF-S lenses.

I know, thats why I went to them to see if one is, or would be available in the future.

A rather exhaustive search turned up NO third-party tele's that will accept an EF-S lens mount. And I'd be surprised if one is on Canon's drawing board. It just wouldn't make sense.

1) Teleconverters (at least GOOD ones) tend to be expensive when looked at next to a $200-$500 lens. Like most EF-S lenses. Why spend $450 to extend a $300 lens when you could buy a $500 lens instead?

2) Teleconverters (at least GOOD ones) tend to be a good deal when you look at one next to a $2500 "L" lens, like the ones they fit. If a $400 tele can nearly double up the 70-200 L for about 1/5th the cost of the next super telephoto up, they make a lot of sense.

See what the problem is? When the accessory costs more than what it fits on, it doesn't make business sense.
