March 2014 on Little cayman

I was on Little Cayman Island in March taking a class on Lightroom 5. [Have to go where the classes are you know :-) ] Tried my hand with wide angle (Tokina 10-17), 60 mm Macro, and 105 mm with a Macromate. Camera is Nikon D7000 in Aquatica housing with two Inon Z240 strobes. Jawfish has eggs in its mouth. Painted Elysia is tiny [grains of sand are under it for size comparison]. Going back again in June for the Digital Shootout. Can't wait.

The underwater world is amazing. I am just getting into the Macro stuff which I really love. Problem is I don't see most of it as it is so small in a large world. The Painted Elysia was only about 1/2 inch long and the file fish was about an inch. compare that to a barracuda at about 5 foot and it take rethinking your eye's and brain to find the little world. I love big stuff like sharks, turtles, lobsters, and fishes, and I love diving wrecks, but the Macro world is my current favorite. It is addictive.

Just move slow and enjoy what is there. There are great wall dives, great coral swim throughs, and everything from the smallest critters to sharks, turtles, barracuda, and the friendliest grouper I have ever been around. It is an awesome place to dive and my favorite spot in the caribbean (and I have dove many many islands there) Enjoy

I'm a macro nut, hence the name critter hunter. Looks like you are mastering the 105, very sharp on both. I've all three of the Caymans and like Little Cayman the best. The macro capital of the world is Philippines and Indonesia,yo especially if you like nudis and frog fish. After many years of frustration on mounting the Tokina wide and the 105, I found if you use a 60mm with a +10 Subsee, you can capture many average size fish and then swing the Subsee in front of your dome port and go after the 1/2" stuff.

I have had the opportunity to dive all 3 Cayman Islands as well. Love Little Cayman the best. I won a trip to Indonesia and am headed there in October for 18 days of diving and photography. Never been there before. Been told my 60 mm will get a real workout there. I do have a macro mate and between the two hope to get a couple (or many more) of decent photos. I dove the wrecks in Bikini Atoll and Truk Lagoon, but have not been down to do 'muck' diving yet. Really looking forward to that trip. Back to Little Cayman in June for the Digital Shootout. Great Fun.

Congrats on the trip to Indonesia, will you much dive Lembeh Straits ?

I did Truk with Palau and Yap several years ago, think I had 14 boarding passes on the milk run out of LAX.

Do you have a website that you post UWP ?

I did the milk run out of Honolulu when I went to truck as well. Flew from Newark (EWR) non stop, had 13 hours in Honolulu (my college roommate lives there so it was not bad) then did the 5 stop trip to Chuuk (40 hrs total). On the way back though I flew to Guam, then HNL and on to EWR and was home in 26 hrs. Bikini was the 18 hour layover in Majaro (bought my wife black Pearls there though).
Lembeh Straight is where we will be diving this entire trip.

Although not up to date, I do have a web site at: www.tdwhitephoto.com None of my latest photos are there but there are some from Truk. Check it out and tell me what you think. It is my first attempt at doing that as well. I have three photos printed in the book "Shipwrecks of the Cunard Line" from the SS Oregon off New York and looks like I will sell my first mounted photo of a flyfisherman in the pounding surf I took a couple of weks ago over in Cape May NJ. I took his photo and then walked down and gave him a business card and had him contact me. Sent him a couple of photos and now his daughters and wife want to have a poster made for his office for his birthday from one of them. Excellent! Not sure what to charge but I want to make a few bucks to be able to justify more gear you know :-)

I am on my way back again on June 14 to see what else I can find and hopefully get a good photo of. Really looking forward to that as a warm up for Indonesia (Lembeh Straight) for 18 days in October. Love Macro stuff.

truly beautiful photos, I"m new to this forum, I"m going on a cruise vacation next month , and plan on snorkeling in grand cayman, with my Nikon 1 AW1 and as a back up, I"m also taking my Nikon coolpx 120, as the original AW1 that I purchased last year, flooded, and Nikon deemed it defective, and gave me a brand new one, I hope this one will work properly!!

Today, July 14th, I am on a Road Trip and will be photographing sites along the historic Rt. 66 south of St. Louis, Mo. Today's adventure coincides with my 66th Bday, and my wife thought it would be a great way to spend the day. Hope to post photos on Facebook at the end of the day, and perhaps one ore more here on UHH as well.
