Just got my Sony A6000 and will be selling my A55. The performance seems quite similar with more megapixels and faster Auto Focus. The size and weight differences are amazing. Only need a small camera bag for my camera and several lenses instead of a backpack.

Seems to be a recent trend in my other camera club... any thoughts?

The A6000 has the FASTEST autofocus in the world.

The SAME system I might add, that is now in the larger A77II. ;)

Image quality for the A6000 is DSLR quality also. It's a great little camera.

As a Canon user, I feel like Canon is standing still, and so may be Nikon, and Sony, Fuji and some of the companies offering mirrorless camera, a setting the standard for new camera bodies.

^^^^Well, in terms of innovation, that most certainly is the case.

Sony has been EXTREMELY innovative the last 8 years since taking over Minolta. And Sony and the other mentioned are positioning themselves in an emerging photography niche market quite nicely. ;)

I have both the NEX-6, which is a compact camera with the E-mount and the Alpha 99, which is the traditional DSLR size with the A-mount. I LOVE my Alpha 99, but I find myself leaning toward taking the smaller camera on trips. For example, I just recently went to Hilton Head, SC and Savannah, Ga. and brought the NEX 6 instead of the Alpha 99. SONY makes a great product, so I know i wasn't giving up too much (if anything) in image quality.

For many years the mirror and prism were a great solution to the problem of not seeing what the lens is seeing. Now there are new solutions.

Small has its advantages but so does big. That's why I have both.

My thoughts?

Love mirrorless.

I jumped off of the Canon ship a year ago and love it.

Fuji X-T1 and 5 primes. (and the bag to hold all of them is about 1/4 the size of the bag I had to hold my 5DIII and a few lenses. :)

I handed my husband my EM-5 which has a battery grip and he thought that was heavy. Love mirrorless. I have Oly EM-5 and Fugi XE-2.

If it fits your needs and wants and feels good in your hands, then you've rightsized your camera.

The A99 is an evolved masterpiece for portrait, landscape, nuance, and studio photography. It doesn't do action very well (because of the EVF), but that's just my personal take on it. It has stellar ergonomics, and the system has some of the finest lenses on this planet.

I just hope they survive in their niche... Sony's good for photography. ;-)
