I just got the Joby ultra fit sling strap and wondered if any other ladies have this. It feels clumsy and awkward to me. Certainly doesn't move as smoothly as the video. What am I missing?
Thanks for any input.
Male and female straps, who knew. Maybe a light coating of wax to improve slipping.

It's an anatomical (more or less) :) thing. Curve of the strap works fine, it is the pully mechanism that feels awkward to me.

Bebo, this is just getting better and better!!
Sorry, SS

OK - 0K - SIMMER DOWN - Glad everyone got a smile - smiles are good.

Sorry, Bebo. You asked for a lady to weigh in, but it looks like you got me instead. Have you ever bought any product that worked as easily and efficiently as the demos promised? I can only assume that it is like with most things and requires practice. In the video I watched, whereas I tend to pull the camera straight up the video shows they first pull the camera outward and away from their body. Maybe if you studied those videos to be sure to duplicate their method?
The anatomically considered design certainly has an appeal, but I do not like that it connects to the tripod mount. In your search, did you run across any that did not attach in that manner?
In all of the threads I have read concerning camera straps, as the men respond to the womens queries, the one word that will not leave the forefront of my mind is boobs! Especially when they extol the benefits of those harness type things. I mean, really, its like they never noticed that anatomical difference.
STVest,
Yes, I watched the video before the purchase and as I first put it on several times and think I have the motions under control. Where they pull the ring and the bottom at the same time (to shorten), the motion is not as fluid as it looks, and I am not sure how that would loosen up, since we are talking fabric here. Yes it is mounted on the tripod mount - but they do offer another gizsmo that you can buy that has connections for both the strap and tripod. I don't want to add anything else to the base of the camera, in any case.
In reviewing the video and stills again, I realize there are many more shots of the camera at rest than shots of the the camera in use. The photos are carefully arranged in profile, or with the hand covering the straps so you aren't aware of them in front of your face until you try it for yourself. Hindsight is 20-20.
Finally, just being able to (talk) about this clarifies my decision to return it. I would not recommend this to anyone else.
I guess the old straps will go back on until I can afford a butler to tend to my gear. :)
I have it too. Thought the same thing. Much improvement over the standard strap though. I ended up going with the Carry Speed (ladies version) after about 6 months and I like the Carry Speed 10 times better. I can carry my D600 with a 28-300mm all day long with no fatigue. I still use my Joby on my D5100 because the camera is lighter and I just dont want to change the straps. But its not as nice.
I'm on the Joby email list due to a product I liked and bought. When I got the email announcing a strap for women I was intrigued as I have been married to a nice one for 46 years. She has a habit of hanging two or three things around her neck when we travel. One is usually a camera. I studied the Joby videos. The primary difference only seemed to be that they picked a curvy model to demo the strap. If I could have seen any actual Joby design difference, I would have bought one as a gift for her.
Her solution for her two cameras has come from OPTECH. She likes the soft foam.

I think asking ladies to "weigh in" might not be the best choice of words. :D
As for the strap, if it didn't work perfectly in their video, they wouldn't have shown their video. I would suggest you keep using it and practice with it. Either the design isn't as good as they led you to believe, or it needs loosening up.

Jerry, I usually agree when you comment to me but not today. I would say the video is well made and edited for sales purposes because I plopped $$$$ down on mine. If you would watch the videos or look at the many photos, you would see there are few shots of anyone actually shooting.
As far as keeping it, I know that if I have to practice with something as simple as a camera strap to like it, it is not the one for me.

PS ....finally heard from a lady who had the strap and did understand my problems with it.

Thank you JC so much for responding. I am sending it back and googling the Carry Speed next.

Right. That's my point. It looks good in their video, but when you buy it...
Maybe you just got a bad one.

Well I can tell you I saw that video & worried about the same issues you experienced so I decided to spend a little more & purchased the cotton carrier vest to help me when I am using my sigma 150-500.I am so happy that I did that.I purchased it on e-bay for $130.00,new & in the box!No longer do I have sore neck or shoulder issues while I am carrying that lens. Very happy!
