After taking the excellent advise provided here, I looked at and handled many cameras. The one that presently stands out is the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS. I did not notice the timer button at the back, perhaps my hand was too small for interference; however, the lack of a manual except for "online" and all the extras needed like the USB cord, case, extra battery etc. is this a good camera investment for a beginner?
Did you pick one up and look through the viewfinder?

I did at Bestbuy, man that EVF sucks.

Without inserted battery, one wouldn't see anything through the electronic viewfinder.
I'm not bashing evf, as I use one on my camera, but as others have said, the sx50 evf does not make a good first introduction into evf's. Find an em-10 and look through that for what it should be.

OR a Sony A77 for less money. ;)
These pictures are stunning. I suspect they were taken with a SX50. Did you need to use the eye view finder to get them? I know I cannot see through the one on the SX50.

To be truthful, I appreciate the screen very much. I have never been able to see clearly through any view finder. Also, what websites are recommended for purchase. The stores I visited have same body prices but the accessories are outrageous.

Who are you responding to?
In reference to the pictures I was responding to "racmanaz". I am new to this type of conversation as this is the first site I have ever "spoken" to people. Perhaps I am not understanding how communication operates.

It's ok, all you have to do is click on "quote reply" on the persons post you want to respond to :). By the way, those were not pics taken by me, those were pics taken by other people with the Canon SX50. :) Welcome to the Hog :)
