Sounds like maybe you have a "pop-under." Some sites (not this one, as far as I know) instead of generating pop-UP windows, will open a window underneath the front-most. If you have your browser full screen, or at least sizable enough to read (like most people), you won't be aware of this pop-under until you either switch to it, or if you shut down your browser, you won't see it at all.

The worst case scenario is that you've picked up a trojan and it's generating this behavior via some crap code that's sitting in your system.

Maybe running a virus scan or just running something like CCleaner will remove the crud.

It has done that on my computer too. It's advertisements. I have installed malwarebytes and it seems to help.

Thank you my friend you have just saved my sanity. I have been getting this phenomenon for the last two weeks and I also only get them on this site. Phew! I'm, not getting senile after all. If you find out how to stop them please let me know.

If you have Chrome, just go to the Chrome store and select Add Blocker and Add Blocker Plus. Add blocker will block the adds, and Add Blocker Plus will block any video there slipping in.

turn down the sound volume on your computer if this helps then, you have a hidden window somewhere that is playing some sort of ad or video.

Well is it working, if it's not, you might have to go into your settings - then extensions, and make sure the add blocker extensions are enabled.
