Nice shot.....I think I would crop out some of the water.

Thanks Photophly, you might be right, but I wanted to get in the complete reflection of the cottage.

I think if I was going to change anything I would back up a couple steps and get more of the house and reflection in. I think you said that you were in a boat though, so maybe the better plan would be to move away a little or back off the camera.

As the title states, this is the Gamecock Cottage located at the end of West Meadow Beach in Stony Brook NY. Shot at ISO 400, 20mm F/9 at 1/320 sec. Critique and comments always appreciated.

Love #1. So many beautiful colors and I love reflections in water!

i was going to ask if you were in a boat....now I know you were. I like it. I find water reflections hard because it tends to split the pic in halves. The bright green building here draws the eye away from that phenomenon....I like it alot..only thing I would do if I had another shot at it would be to get whatever is sticking up from the front point of the building in the photo to its end or make it go away all together.

Thanks Rivernan. Yeah, that blasted pole on the building was a problem. It didn't go up much more than you see in the photo. I was overly concerned about keeping the blown out sky out as much as possible. To crop it out completely would have lost that item in the center of the building. So I was damned either way. At this point I have not begun to remove things via photoshop. One because I haven't learned how and two because I have this "thing" about physically removing things from a photo. Maybe, that's just silly but it's how I feel. I certainly have no qualms whatsoever regarding changing saturation, contrast, white balance etc. Perhaps once I step up to the plate and learn "how to do it" I'll change my tune, who knows.

I do know what you mean about photoshop. I have had a phobia about it myself. Kinda seems a bit like cheating to me, unless you go all out and make something really abstract..then it does seem kinda cool. Im trying to get past my phobia and have to see little by little and with the help of folks here...im moving forward with it. Windows live has been my friend for the exact types of things you mention above. Still a great photo you got there.
