To all the Hogger railfans, I chased the 4014 UP Big Boy from Kelso, Ca to "Lost Wages", NV. yesterday. She rests until May 1 where she will depart at 8:00 AM for Utah. I have attached some of the pictures I shot of her at different locations. For you east coast railfans, eat your heart out!

Great photos, Bill!! I just Googled this engine. My Grandfather on my Dads side was a railroad engineer and I believe my love of trains is genetic; I love the old trains.
Will you follow Big Boy on the rest of his journey? I would love to see more photos as he continues on.
As an aside...he was retired the day I was born. I think I'm going to have to keep track of this guy. I wonder who decided it was male???
Unfortunately, I will not be chasing it East. I have commitments in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. I will be keeping up, from time to time, on its restoration via the UP website. There are rumors, however, that it will be restored in about five years and it will make the trek back to its resting place in Pomona, CA. I will be these for that! Until then, I will be shooting other trains that come through.

Thanks, Sailorsmom, I really had a great time shooting this train. It brings back memories and thrills of chasing other train of note: 4449, 3985, 3751, The Royal Hudson, and many other local steam trains in California and places west.

Thanks luvmypets, I really enjoyed this trip. This locomotive is very impressive. You just cannot judge its size from photographs, you must go to it, touch it, feel the power it radiates. I'm a railfan and all railfans have this feeling about the majesty of this engine. Can't wait for it to return,

I posted this in the wrong section. What I meant to do was to show all the railfans on the Hog what the Big Boy 4014 looks like on the road. I chased this train from Kelso, CA. to Las Vegas, NV. It took about six hours to go this distance. The train was only doing about 25 to maybe 30 miles per hour, not the crack express of old. Well. it got me out of the house and back on the road again chasing trains. This really brings back old memories racing ahead of the train for good shots. Look at these and admire this locomotive. I hope I have done justice to it.

Wonderful shots; I have always enjoyed my train travels.
Thanks for your comments, Sirius, I find trains fascinating to shoot , but not necessarily to travel on. The reason is that I can't shoot them while I am inside.
