I have always bought Nikon lenses marked for US distribution and have stayed away from gray market lenses. It has been easy to tell the difference because the US lenses had a "US" prefix to the serial number. But I have recently purchased 2 brand new US market lenses that do not have the US prefix. They both came with the yellow Nikon USA warranty card and the dealer swears they are US lenses. I know there is mechanically no difference, but Nikon USA won't generally touch a lens for the overseas market. My question is, has Nikon stopped putting the US prefix on the US bound lenses or is there something more?

My 18-55mm Nikon is made in Thailand and my 55-300mm Nikon is made in China. Camera also made in Thailand.
Thanks. That puts my mind at ease since the boxes for both lenses had these items. Just can't figure out why Nikon doesn't have a little uniformity on something that should be so simple.
