Seems like a lot of people make them up due to laziness in typing and we just have to try to catch on as time goes......
BIF is for Birds In Flight (usually anyway)
Metadata is the detailed information regarding camera settings that can be found as part of the details in each photo's file properties.

I've been using a camera since I was about 8 years old, and have the same problem.
A little while ago I started to collect all those abbreviations and acronyms and made a list.
I'll contact Nikonian and ask if I can upload that list to the FAQ and Answers Section here on the Hog.

Welcome to UHH. Learning the "photography" language is part of the process. Sometimes it is the most difficult part. At the top you will find a "search" feature. I still use search frequently because I find many answers to my questions. Once you get a grasp of the language things will start to fall into place. Good luck and have fun.

Here are a few to be getting on with:

SOOC - Straight out of Camera - refers to image with no post processing
FOOC - Fell off of Camera - Tripod bush fell off due to hanging camera from shoulders with strap in bush
FOOC2 - Fell off of camera - refers to lens falling when not attached properly
FIC - Fell into camera - refers to someone tripping over the tripod
FTCB - Forgot to charge battery - self explanatory
PUB - Used as a suffix whenever one of the last four are used

Tried that with GAS - got a ton of articles on the price changes of gasoline. Tried G.A.S. - articles from G lens to Medicare part G...

It's definitely a journey tracking down some of the acronyms being used

An easy way to use find you metadata, Just right click on the file, at the bottom of choice it says Properties, click on that then click on the details, scroll down and see what data your file contains, the government loves it.
