In a recent video, the instructor praised the merits of his Black Rapid camera strap. The online reviews are generally positive with a few suggested improvements. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who uses one of the many Black Rapid strap models. Thanks for your input.
Sincerely,
Lee

Many thanks for the link. Somehow I missed that one when I did my initial search. I see where many favor the OpTech brand as it does not rely on the tripod mount for securing the camera.
Cheers,
Lee

You're most welcome Lee, I went for the OpTech myself.

I have the OP/Tech and the Black Rapid RS7. Both are very well made. The Black Rapid appears to be built a little stronger, but both function much the same. I would recommend both.
Good luck, hope that helps.

Thanks, Joe, for taking the time to respond. One complaint I recall about the Black Rapid was that it irritated the neck of some users. This may have been "operator error" in not adjusting the strap properly. Have you noticed this with either of your straps?

The Op/Tech is a little softer, but neither have ever irritated my neck.

I use a Black Rapid RS7 but took off the mounting screw and now mount the carabiner to one of the camera lugs. If that makes you nervous, add a short strap to the other lug.

where did you get the carabiner? its hard to see how it is attached in the photo.
I have a black rapid and seeing people talk about the tripod mount failing has me thinking maybe I should rethink having my Canon 100-400mm L on my 7D attached to it.

The carabiner comes with the Black Rapid straps.
Maybe this angle is a little better?

I was looking more at how it attached to the camera, Canon has a different way of attaching to the body.

I've been using BR for YEARS and have nothing but GREAT performance out of them.

I'm a big guy, and the Black Rapid was the only rig that was comfortable, convenient, and worked without failure.

And yes... I put my straps through the paces. They get SERIOUS workouts on the weekends... SERIOUSLY.

They are dependable in just about all situations and I recommend them.

Jim tripod lug failure is an urban legend.

It just doesn't happen in REAL life, and you shouldn't worry about it.

I own and constantly use a BR R-7, but I have modified mine by attaching two BR tether kit cords to the strap lugs, adding a second CR-2 connector to the strap and carrying the camera by both strap lugs. It's an ideal mating of BR and OpTech concepts.
