An interview with ptipton,
You are a winner in the Weekly Photo Challenge and as such if you would like to answer the following questions I will post them. (Please type your answer after each question)
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Since the late sixtys in college. Took a course in B&W. Really liked it.
2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training beyond my college courses at Baylor. I like landscapes best.
3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
Singular focus, and that is not in the camera, it is the image.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
Pentax K5 with an 18-250 Pentax lens. No special set up.
5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Minimal post processing with Photoshop Elements.
6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
All the B&W photograpers like Adams, Westin, etc. They knew who to use light effectively.
7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
Nope
8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I spent a lot of years trying to include too much in a photograph. Simple is better and practice really helps.
9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Tripod.
10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
Pentax 18-250. I do not like changing lenses. I am usually in wet or dusty places. I like to travel light.
11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
Whatever God gives me.
12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Painting.
13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
I could probably write a book. Had a Ranger tell about a time he was collecting trash at a Canyonlands camp. He heard a bunch of crashing around and the sound or metal being smashed. He thought the bears were in the trash cans again. When he got there it was a Subaru Outback trying to get up the 4 wheel drive trail. He said it was not a pretty sight.
14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
http://www.paultiptonphotography.com and
http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/artists/paultipton15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Get out there and take pictures.
