Thanks, Traveler, I'll add that to my wish list, but right now I'm still about $1499 short. LOL.

We usually think of Adorama, B&H, Amazon as photo places. I've had two good buying experiences with Cameta Camera. Both B&H and Cameta have D7100 refurbs for sale, around $950. There are D7000 for about $700 at Cameta.

The best time to buy a new camera is when you have enough money to pay cash AND your wife doesn't know. :-D :-)

I Have so many cameras that she probably would not notice another one. Unfortunately, the same applies to her jewelry

I've decided to go for the upgrade from my nikon d3200 to the d7100, and Im just curious if there is a "better" time of year to buy a camera. I've noticed that Nikon, among others, seems to offer a lot of rebates.. (when I got my 3200 I believe it was $250. 00). I'm not opposed to paying the going rate, but would hate to see a big rebate come out a month later, but at the same time I don't want to wait forever to upgrade. .any thoughts, anyone? ??

The time of year when you have the money in your bank account. I never seem to find that time of year for the toys I want. :roll: :lol:

These links might help you depending on your poison.

Good links! Thanks! I've got to upgrade my Canon. Unfortunately Canon makes the body decision tough due to what lenses you own. :roll: :thumbup:

Wrong, wrong, wrong. She will notice the extra camera gear and ask why you didn't buy her the necklace she wanted. Or use the money for a cruise. Don't you realize you don't need any more "toys"? It's time for you to grow up. :lol: :thumbup: :thumbup:

I will be 60 this fall. I think I will grow old before I grow up. It is not a matter of need, it is a matter of WANT. Ditto for her silly jewelry

LOL! I know what you mean. Here's a song for you. If you've lived in Cincinnati you should know it. A true classic.

TLS 1.2, AES with 128 bit encryption (High); ECDH_P256 with 256 bit exchange

She came down from Cincinnati.
It took her three days on a train.
Lookin' for some peace and quiet;
hoped to see the sun again.
But now she lives down by the ocean.
She's takin' care to look for sharks.
They hang out in the local bars,
And they feed right after dark.

[Chorus:]
Can't you feel 'em circlin' honey?
Can't you feel 'em swimmin' around?
You got fins to the left, fins to the right,
and you're the only bait in town.
You got fins to the left, fins to the right,
and you're the only girl in town.

She's savin' up all of her money.
Wants to head south in May;
Maybe roll in the sand with a rock'n'roll man,
Somewhere down Montserrat way.
But the money's good in the season;
Helps to lighten her load.
Boys keep her high as the months go by.
She's gettin' postcards from the road.

[Chorus]

Sailed off to Antigua.
It took her three days on a boat.
Lookin' for some peace and quiet;
Maybe keep her dreams afloat.
But now she feels like a remora,
'cause the school's still close at hand.
Just behind the reef are the big white teeth
of the sharks that can swim on the land.

I did live in Cincinnati from March 1985 to June, 1986. When I moved to Staten Island 20 years ago the strip malls, topography of the Island and town house developments were reminiscent of Cincinnati, hence the moniker, Cincinnati by the Sea

I was trying to include a decent link but it doesn't seem to have worked out. Cincinnati has a huge Jimmy Buffet following. Only city I can remember where he played four straight nights to a sold out crowd. Fins Up!

Thanks for that info. Being an owner of one, you speak from experience.

Ouch!!!! That's what my wallet would say. Probably a great lens but a bit limited in range even for $1399. Personally I'd go for a wider range in focal length and sacrifice a little on the speed (max aperture). How often are you going to shoot at 2.8? It does make viewing brighter and would help in MF but I don't have problems with an f4 -5.6 lens. Just depends on what you like to shoot. :thumbup:

Yes, it depends on what you like to shoot. I use f/2.8 and faster a lot. It will also have visibly better IQ at f/4 and f/5.6, where the cheaper lens is wide open. Almost the only time I shoot at f/8 or smaller is in a studio workshop and someone else has set up the lights.

I loved my old Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC and the FD 200mm f/2.8. The 200mm was considered a luxury lens at the time. LOL!Just had to have them rather than the 1.8 and 4. I was using them on the original Canon F-1 so the added brightness through the viewfinder was a benefit as far as focusing. If the lens resolution is basically equal I would sacrifice speed for focal length range these days. Just my way of looking at it. Maybe I'm totally out of focus on the issue. I've been called worse. MUCH WORSE!!!!! :roll: :lol: :thumbup:
