I am looking to "lighten" my photography equipment. I have been able to sell a Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 70D. Since, as my 5 year old grandson puts it, "we are a Canon family", I am researching the Canon T4i and T5i. The thing I noticed and the reason for the question is, the T4i (body only) is $130 more expensive than the T5i (body only). Its the same whether its Amazon, B&H, or Adorama. My question is why? These seem to be identical in terms of specs, with the possible advantage to the T5i. Thanks for your help.

I have the T4i, purchased a few months before the T5i came out. The only thing I would like to have, and is on the T5i, is the wireless capability. None of the other specs are important... to me. My husband still uses his T2i. I suggested he buy the T5i, but even he says my camera is enough and he will wait until we go to full frame cameras.

The T4i is discontinued and no longer falls under Canons MAP pricing. Sellers are free to charge whatever they want for them now.

If you look, you'll see that many of the bigger companies, B&H included, no longer sell the T4i. They had many issue with the new DIGIC 5 processor and were tired of dealing with returns. The T5i has this processor, so they must of worked out the issues. So, the true question is T3i or T5i. I have the T2i and love it. It's still my workhorse, I have my 400mm permanently on my 7D. I know there is very little difference between the T2i & the T3i.

Another thing. Do you plan on shooting video? Some of the Canon line of STM lenses only work with certain bodies. They still work as normal lenses, you just can't take advantage of the focusing motor. You won't go wrong with either body.

I won't be shooting video with a DSLR, I have a Panasonic video camera. I like the way it feels in my hand with the little strap holding it on.

Thank you, I knew I could count on you. Too bad I don't live closer, I would certainly go to your store.

I stock the T3i and T5i kits. My biggest issue with the T5i is the touch screen, you have to turn it towards the body to use the viewfinder or you can inadvertently change settings with your nose.

Maybe I should wait for the T6i. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

If you want to go lighter, how about the Canon SL1?

I don't have any camera stores around here anymore. The last one was Calumet who went belly up. I tried one at Best Buy and I just didn't like how it felt. But thanks for the suggestion.

I try to avoid anything with a touch screen (except the smartphone, of course). I've found them to be too finicky. Once they stop working, there goes your control over the device.

That is a very good point. So, I would have to go to a T3i for a non-touch screen. The issue with that is that the processor is outdated, if I care about that. Any advice?
