Went out to try Macro ended up doing portraits

I went out to a nearby nature preserve with expectations of trying to capture some creepy crawly things with my macro lens. I didn't find anything around I guess the 7 degree temps and long winter have kept them indoors. I did find a couple of swans and got these shots.

I especially like the pose in #2. Am puzzled by the shadows though

What appears as shadows are OOF reeds between the swans and my position.
