Beautiful colors in the sky. In the Navy we always said "Red sky in the morning Sailor take warning" Looks like a storm may have been on its way?

Speaking of sky shots. I missed a once in a lifetime shot the other morning because my camera was sitting at the house. On the horizon there was the silver lined clouds before the sun had cleared them. In the middle there was a large ray of light about the color of your sky shot that shot straight up like one of the twin tower spot lights with the surrounding sky deep blue on both sides of it. At the top of the ray it connected with an amber sky. Its hard to describe but I've never seen it before.

If you can think of the old Star Trek show "Beam me up Scotty" it looked like if you stepped in the ray you would have a fast trip to Heaven! Lesson? Never leave your camera home. Thanks for posting.

Speaking of missed shots, I saw one sunset shortly after Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991when I lived on Oahu the likes of which I had never seen or heard. Normally in Hawaii a sunset will last only about twenty minutes, this night I was on Yokohama beach on the west side of the island which has the mountains between it and the city lights so it gets really dark. This particular sunset didn't last twenty minutes but it lasted 90 minutes! After the sun went down the clouds got redder and redder until an hour and a half after sunset it was a deep purple! Even if I had had a camera I would not have been able to photograph it the light was so low, but it sure was beautiful!

P.S. your hole in the sky, while the mechanism is known (supersaturated clouds suddenly falling out of supersaturation with accompanying precipitation.) there is a lot of argument in weather guesser circles about what initiates the event. Sometimes it is a plane going through the cloud layer with the exhaust of the engines starting the process, but many times no one has a clue why the hole. Congratulations, in over twenty years in the weather guessing business I never had the fortune to see one of them, (I did see six water spouts at once though).
