I am considering moving up from my 5100 to a 7100... What will happen with my existing lenses? Will my wide angle be wider? What happens with my zoom? Can I get high speed sync with the 7100? Thanks in advance!

the lens you currently own will work the same as before. Nothing will change as far as zoom or width if you shoot in DX. What you're probably asking is about the ability to change from a 1.3 sensor to a 1.5 sensor"normal". I myself, don't use it very often as I find myself using the 1.5 which gives me a 16x24 then I crop to what I like. Nice camera though, very happy with mine.

I made the same upgrade a few months ago. As they are both APS-C sensors all of you lenses will work the same. The biggest improvement is the button layout and dual wheels that allow you can change more settings without going onto the menus. Also, you do get high speed sync and can use the popup flash as a master to control a remote. The additional custom settings and higher FPS and MP count is nice. Glad I made the change but i do miss the articulating screen sometimes.
The lenses you're using for your current camera will give you the same results you're seeing with your D5200..A 18-55 will still view as an 18-55mm, a 70-300mm will still work as a 70-300mm..The D7100 will be able to resolve a little more.. The d7100 does have more features
Why do you wish to change? If you are NOT getting great results from your D5200, maybe something is wrong with the camera or your technique(s)?
Your D5200 is considered to be a very good camera.
I currently own a D7000..If I made the jump, I would go for a D7100.
Good Luck on whatever you decide
I would like to change for a couple of reasons. I find myself using more and more speedlights inside and out. I need the high speed sync so I can run higher shutter speeds for background blur. I would also like to give flash command a try. I have a couple of pocket wizards, but they sure are expensive... White balance adjustments using grey card would be nice. also all the menu stuff is a pain... If I had my druthers I'd go full frame, but the budget isn't there for that. Don't get me wrong the 5100 is a good camera and I get great results from it, but I've outgrown it.

I am not familiar with your camera and don't know what's speed lights you use, but I use a D7100 and an SB 910 and yes you can get high speed sync with that combo...

I moved from a 5100 to a 7100 a couple of months ago. All your lens will work the same. The 7100 has an internal motor so that's a plus with other lens also the 51 point focus and 24 mp. I downloaded the D7100 manual to give me more info before I purchased it. Great camera and you won't regret getting it. There are also many websites that will compare the two. I keep the 5100 as a backup. Good luck with you choice.
