No, they actually are small to tiny... the one in my avatar is the biggest one that I have come across, he was less than 1/2 inch long and a little less than 1/4 inch across his face. of course I am not including his legs in these measurements. The little green spiders that I have been posting for the last couple of days are so small that I can not see their faces with my eyes. I shoot with reversed lenses that give higher magnification than does a macro lens and that is how I get such big pictures of such small things.

It makes a person never want to squish another spider again…actually though, I have never squished spiders in the house. I carry them outside. I've always thought they are beautiful creatures. But since I've started trying to photograph them, I've accidentally squished a couple.

That's pretty funny, personally I kill spiders in the house but that is because I have been bitten a couple of times almost always during my sleep... Spider bites are kinda nasty, the good news is, is that Jumping spiders are pretty much harmless as are most spiders, even the dangerous ones only bite because unintentional contact that the spiders feel threatened by.

You would be better served with automatic extension tubes..
APeeR, I think I have an extension tube. When first started photography a little over a year ago, I bought these tubes that made my kit lens blow things up really big… Would those work with my macro lens?

A hollow tube with contacts (metal pins), one end connects on the lens the other couples to the camera, yes that will work. Be sure it has the contacts or you won't be able to change aperture on your 100mm.

Thank you for killing the spider. I, for one, appreciate it. I don't mind spiders in the least but some things are made for killing. After you get a good photo of course.Spiders are in that group.

That's pretty harsh, Dennis. :-( …. anyway, Country's Mama said to look at the ones that get away as parents of future subjects.

EXACTLY. Come to think about it I don't have to clean spiders.
I am not really that bad. While cleaning a bathroom a few minutes ago I saw two and they are still there, alive and doing fine.

Cleaning them would pose a challenge for sure. Even though some extreme macro guys clean the outside for photos shoots. Spiders do help keep even less desirable critter numbers down.

Nightski... I am not offended that you killed your "forward friend". I mean, this was a first date after all and he was putting the moves on you.. the nerve!

I am surprised you didn't include a head stone as a warning to others like him!

NICE Snuff shot! :)

Okay… more practice …soon we will have bugs. I have a Canon…not a Nikon though.
It doesn't matter which camera you have, the rules are the same. Extension tubes one of the best ways to get extra magnification and then auto bellows. Novoflex actually makes set for Canon. but they are quite a bit more expensive than extension tubes.
