For some reason the other day I decided to check for a firmware update for my D7000 and low and behold there is a recent one. For anyone else who may have a D7000 and not know, Google it and upgrade. Just a suggestion.

This is copied info from www.dpreview.com on the upgrade:

Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.

Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.

Frame output size has been changed from 95% to 100% when movie live view display is changed to "Information off" and an HDMI-compatible device is connected.

An issue that caused the right edges of images to be somewhat white when captured at an Image area setting of DX (24x16) 1.5x withActive D-Lighting set to Off has been resolved.

When the camera's shutter-release button was pressed repeatedly for uninterrupted shooting with the "Record to:" option in Camera Control Pro 2's Storage tab set to "PC+CARD", the camera would stop responding with displaying "Err" in its control panel. This issue has been resolved.

In some very rare cases, colors would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific color temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.

Oops the original post was the D7000
My D7100 shows
C 1.00
L 1.008, why jump to "L"
Nikon support shows C 1.01 They don't say what it does. Camera works fine for me so why up grade. If it ain't broke why fix it.

Firmware updates may eliminate some problems from the original issue, one should ALWAYS update Firmware when it is made available. It is the proper Consumer way of doing things, n'est pas ?

I think I will leave mine 'original'. Afraid of screwing something up. But thanks

Firmware updates aren't released unless something is broke. Just saying.

Nikon released the C 1.01 firmware for the D5100/D5200 and other models for the following "upgrade":

Modifications enabled with this firmware upgrade
Modifications enabled with firmware C: 1.01
Remaining battery charge is now accurately detected for Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL14a.
With C firmware Ver. 1.00, the number of images that can be captured (battery life) when an EN-EL14a is used is less than when an EN-EL14 is used. By upgrading C firmware to Ver. 1.01, EN-EL14a performance is maximized so that more images can be captured (battery life) than when an EN-EL14 is used.

The Nikon EN-EL14a is the newer version of the older Nikon EN-EL14 battery. Unfortunately, a by-product of this upgrade is that 3rd party batteries that previously worked in the affected Nikon cameras BEFORE the upgrade stopped powering up the camera AFTER the upgrade. To this date, Nikons 'fix' for the issue is to replace the 3rd party battery with a much more expensive 'Nikon approved' battery.

The moral of the story? Read what the upgrade is supposed to correct. If you do not appear to be experiencing the issues the upgrade is supposed to correct, it may be a good idea to leave things alone. At the very least, wait before you upgrade and see if someone else experiences issues with the upgrade. Just because it fixes one problem, doesn't mean it won't cause another. And unfortunately, this is not an uncommon problem with firmware upgrades in general. And in a lot of equipment like this, the new firmware overwrites the old firmware, so there is no going back once the firmware is installed.
