I have not measured this setup but I am thinking that this is somewhere close to 4X these pics have not been cropped so...

This little guy was working hard on his nest out on the front porch. He was pretty patient while I took these shots.

28mm reversed lens on a full set of tubes. f/8 125th ISO 160 1/8th power flash.

Those are great photos. Very well done. There are what looks like 3 black dots on top of his head. Do you have any idea what they are?

Thanks, there is a little Magnolia Green Jumping spider crawling around the ceiling out there but I am not going to take him down today, it is very cloudy and a little wet and I can hardly see to focus with this setup so... I will wait for a bit brighter day. I am afraid that I will only get one chance with the spider because I will have to move him to somewhere where I can shoot.... I have a 50/50 chance of losing him when I move him... We will see.

They are eyes... there is a name for that cluster of eyes, I forget, but we have several people on this forum that could write books about bugs.. Maybe someone will gives us some more info.

The texture in image #3 is spectacular.

The three simple eyes are used mainly to detect motion, especially sudden shadows from above. Wired directly into the wasps defense system, as opposed to the compound eyes which are used for locating food, viewing nest construction, flight, etc.

Thank you. I see I have much to learn yet providing I have the time to do all and see all. I did learn something new today though.

I actually got a better one later after posting these... Here it is probably about as good as I could do with this lens.

This is an excellent portrait of a wasp, sharp, detailed and well exposed. Nice work.
