Ones I have been looking at is Pansonic Lumix ZS-8 and ZS-10, shoot 14 pixel and have a 16x zoom. The model ten has GPS with a 3 inch view screen of 460,000 dots. At present I do have a Canon 9 pixel with a 10X zoom. From what I have read I would not worry much about anything above 10 pixel as at the point it is much about marketing. There are several search sites that can help you compare but I believe you will find that pretty quick you are not talking any major differences. Good luck

I just ordered and will probably get it Wednesday, a Canon A1200 , 12mp p&s WITH a built-in VIEWFINDER... They normally sell for about $150 or so, but if you flip the pages on ebay you can find one a lot cheaper (brand new)..... I paid $80 bucks WITH a 4gb mem card... I allready had a Kodak 9.1 pix but got tired of not having an actual view finder, sooooooo.

I own both the DMC LX5 and DMC ZS10 and both are easy to use (particularly the ZS10). The pros and technical experts are particularly tough on the ZS10 with up to a 21X zoom is small but for the average P & S user it is a breeze to use with a smooth zoom. It does not capture raw files but most casual users do not use raw. Both cameras feel solid. The LX5 is much more expensive but has a 2.0 lens but only a 3-4X zoom. Neither camera has a build in viewfinder but the 3" back screen is nice. Lumix cameras also have the best repair record in the industry so says Consumer Reports. In 18 years I have never had to have anything fixed.

To be fair, Cannon and Nikon both have excellent P & S cameras but I prefer the feel, look, and performance of the Panasonic P & S cameras.

I have a Lumix DMC-LX2 as well as a Nikon L120. The LX2 is compact and fits in my pants pocket, but I usually carry it in a belt pouch. I get better pictures with the L120: stronger color and I guess more pixtels/frame. I guess I'm what you would call a serious amateur

Two sites that have always been fair and accurate (in my humble opinion) are Steve's Digicams and Digital Photography Review. Steve is very fair in his evaluations and suggestions where, I think, DPR leans a bit to anal retention. Still, I'd check with both sites. If you have a store that will let you handle cameras with knowledgeable techies, all the better We have B&H Photo here in New York and they are the absolute best. Good luck on your quest.

I just got a Canon Powershot SX230HS, it seems to be a good one although I have to come to term of not having a view-finder.
